BioFemme is the first complete feminine care line certified Organic by COSMOS® ORGANIC by Ecocert® Greenlife available in North America. Created by Manon Pilon, R&D Director of the Nelly De Vuyst® Laboratories and her team, the BioFemme products were developed as a result of Manon’s interest in feminine care. The need for 100% organic and safe feminine care products became undeniable and led to the launch of the BioFemme collection in September 2018. Discover how Manon’s interest in feminine care all began.

Visit Our FAQThe development of the BioFemme products began with a rather personal story about me, Manon Pilon. In my teenage years and as I was growing up, I was constantly dealing with yeast infections. As a young teenage girl, I wanted to wear jeans like my friends but automatically, if I wore any tight clothing, I would have a yeast infection.
After talking with my mother, she decided to bring me to her gynecologist. And her gynecologist said to me, “well it has to do with the genes, you know, it’s genetic”. Your mother has yeast infections so you will have yeast infections, you will just have to live with it”.
So I continued living my teenage years believing that this was something I was going to struggle with for the rest of my life. I was not able to wear jeans or tight pants but I thought this was normal, it was my genetics.
” I did not want my daughter to live through everything I had been through. I did not want her to have to limit her choice in clothing or to continuously be using anti-fungal medication. “
Fast forward to years later, I met my husband and had 3 beautiful children. The issue rose again, when my daughter, Sara at 8 years old began to have yeast infections. The infections were so severe and recurrent that she was hospitalized. The second time that she was hospitalized for 3 days, I decided this is enough!
I did not want my daughter to live through everything I had been through. I did not want her to have to limit her choice in clothing or to continuously be using anti-fungal medication.
So I took matters into my own hands and decided to meet with three gynecologists from the Montreal Children’s Hospital and I wanted them to explain to me how is this possible! I brought with me a pair of underwear and said to them “how is it that my young daughter is bleaching her underwear? How can we explain this?”. They did not have an answer. Mind you, this is many years ago but there was no known explanation.
I started to do my own research and noticed with the help of my amazing team of researchers at the Nelly De Vuyst® Laboratory that it is really the pH that matters in order to be healthy. If your pH is between 3.8 and 4.1, you are within a healthy range and your vaginal flora is in balance. This is why is it important to regularly measure your pH and is ultimately what led to the creation of the first BioFemme product: Zone Control. Formulated to target yeast infections and assist in rebalancing the intimate flora, it helps ensure the well-being of the intimate area. Following this, we developed two prebiotic pH gels, the pH Balancing Gel and the pH Soothing Gel. They both help maintain the predominance of the vaginal flo ra lactobacilli.
All the BioFemme products are 100% certified COSMOS® ORGANIC by Ecocert® Greenlife, vegan, dye free, paraben free, alcohol free, silicone free, mineral oil free, PEG free, GMO free, gluten free, and are not tested on animals.
When your pH becomes more alkaline, it means that the bacteria is becoming more pathogenic. This is when it becomes a problem for your health. Symptoms such as bloating, gas, fatigue and memory loss are related to the overgrowth of the bacteria which suggests that the pH is more than likely over 4.2.
Know that yeast infections are not always related to discharge or odors, it is possible to have the pathogenic growth without having the typical symptoms. Taking a vaginal pH test once a month can help you identify your pH level and take any necessary steps to re-balance it.
