Layering : Adopt The Technique Of The Pros To Apply Your Skin Care

Did you know that the effectiveness of your skin care routine depends on the order of the application of your products?

Applying your skin care products one after the other, superimposed in a specific order, is what is called the “Layering” technique. This technique maximizes the absorption and effectiveness of each treatment while promoting hydration and overall radiance of the skin. This method also specifically targets a skin issue and is especially beneficial if your skin requires more hydration during the winter. Discover all the steps to master the technique of “layering” and ensure the highest performance of your Nelly De Vuyst® skin care!

PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS

As a rule, the technique of “layering” must be performed on perfectly cleansed skin. The lightest or most liquid formulas should be applied first as they will be absorbed more quickly into the skin. The richer, thicker formulas should be applied last.

STEP 1: CLEANSE THE SKIN

If you wear makeup, it is important to double cleanse your skin. Firstly, opt for a creamy make-up remover which has a vegetal oil base. It will remove all traces of makeup and dirt on the face, neck and eyelids in one application while preserving the skin’s moisture. This formula is ideal for cleaning dry skin.

STEP 2: DEEP CLEANSE

Continue the cleansing process with a sulphate-free cleansing foam. This will help deeply clean the epidermis and pores. This is a very important step if you have blackheads or if you have an uneven skin tone. For normal to oily skin, opt for a cleansing gel. For sensitive skin choose a cleansing foam.

STEP 3: BALANCE pH

Next, use a toner to balance the pH of your skin. Since your skin has a physiological pH of 5.5 and water has a pH of 7, it is important to re-balance the pH of your skin after rinsing it with water. Use an alcohol-free toner made from floral waters.

STEP 4: APPLICATION OF SERUMS

Serums are very light, ultra-concentrated formulas with active ingredients. They penetrate quickly into the skin and are able to reach the deeper layers of the epidermis. That’s why they are to be applied first. Serums are perfect for local application to target a specific need of your skin, such as wrinkles or redness. However, they can also be applied to the whole face for an overall treatment.

STEP 5: APPLICATION OF AN OIL

Ideal for targeting a specific local problem or simply to improve the overall hydration of the skin, oils offer many benefits for the skin. Nelly De Vuyst® Oils have fine molecular structures that allow them to penetrate through the epidermis. Therefore, they are to be applied right after the serum.

STEP 6: HYDRATION

The moisturizer is one of the last stages of layering. It will come in the form of gel or cream, depending on your skin type, and will act on the more superficial layers of the skin. In addition to its moisturizing action, this treatment will have a synergistic action with the previously applied skin care products to maximize their effects. Start with a moisturizer for the eye area and then continue applying a moisturizer to the entire face.

STEP 7: SUN PROTECTION

Finish by applying the most important step in the fight against premature aging during the day: SPF30 Sunscreen. It will act on the surface of the skin and form a “protective barrier” against UVA and UVB rays as well as pollution. Therefore, it must be applied last.

Now you know all the basic steps of layering! Remember to wait about 30 seconds to a minute between each application of skin care in order to ensure complete penetration of the product into the skin. You can complete your skin care routine by using an exfoliator or a mask once or twice a week, right after the deep cleansing of the skin.
